How to optimize an article for the search engines

Writing articles is one of the best ways to draw traffic to a site for free. Most information marketing articles are written with the express purpose of drawing traffic to your website or some type of service you provide, so it's important that you will get indexed by the search engines in the long run. I have gotten to the first and second page of Google for most of my articles, so it's important to choose a good title, which is the most important thing the se's look for.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • word editor
  • subscription to Ezinearticles
  • a brain
  • wordtracker's freekeyword generator- www.freekeywords.wordtracker.com

Step1
Some of the heavy hitters are EzineArticles, submityourarticle, phantomwriters, ideamarketers, and goarticles. Join these sites and start posting articles written about topics in and around your niche. For example, if I was a public speaking, I could write about preparation, outlining a speech, places to speak, but I could and should also write about motivation, mindset, confidence, and other things that speakers would be interested in learning about. Post these articles to the top dogs. Some websites know if you've posted them around town, but just submit them to as many as you can. You can also have someone submit articles to websites for you, but we're looking for free methods to begin.
Step2
Remember the 80/20 rule: 80% of any results come from twenty percent of the sources and vice versa. Don't go out there and try and submit your first articles to dozens or hundreds of sites. The other 50 sites you choose will constitute 20% of the eventual traffic you get, if any. Stick with the A-Players for now (like those listed above), and as you begin to have more money than time, consider paying someone to submit articles or joining other sites.
Step3
Now for optimizing your information articles: To keep it simple, use wordtracker or another free keyword suggestion tool to find short (3 words or less) terms related to your niche and optimize for these. Use this term in the heading if possible, in the subheading, and 2 to 3 times in the article itself. Don't worry too much about each article, because there are successful internet marketers who write 5 or more per day, simply because the traffic they will create over the long run will last for months or years to come, driving targeted visitors to the site.

Tips & Warnings

  • remember- write at least an article per day
  • use freekeywords.wordtracker.com to find keywords that people are actually looking for
  • add a resource box to the end of your articles, obviously noting your website or blog
