Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Internet access
- Money
-
Step 1
Choosing a Halloween costume.
The costume craze begins as children and adults both try to decide which fantasy character they want to imitate for Halloween. Most choose their costume based on popular TV shows or movies released during 2008. Some of those popular characters include Indiana Jones, Iron Man, Harry Potter, Hanna Montana, Ben Ten, and Sponge Bob. Classics that are always popular include Superman, Batman and Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. My nephew wants the mad hatter costume and my co-worker is getting the Tinkerbell costume for her child. -
Step 2
Shopping online for the best place to buy costumes.
There are several online stores with costume sales. Oriental trading, buycostumes.com, and shindigz.com are a few that have great sales right now. Shindigz.com is offering as much as 85% off on Halloween costume clearances. See resource section below to find your Halloween deal. -
Step 3
The costume craze does not have to consume you!
Halloween costumes can be costly if the fictional character your child wants to imitate is very popular. Halloween costumes can range anywhere from $10 to $100 depending on age, type of costume and where you shop. Have you considered a costume swap? Talk to parents in the neighborhood to see if one of them have the costume your child wants. The costume your child wants this year was probably worn by some child you know that wants a different costume this year. If you can't swap with them, you might be able to get it for a very cheap price. The point is, like wedding gowns, the costume will only be worn once so minimize the financial investment. -
Step 4
Be creative!
Money is tight and many cannot afford frivolous things like a Halloween costume. Well, get your green clay mask out. Cover the child's face and arms. Take a towel, sheet, or pillow case and fix it like a cape on the child. Add eye liner from eyes to cheek to make him look scarier - or use lipstick. Kids don't care as long as they're dressed up for the trick-or-treat. -
Step 5
Give year-long Halloween gifts.
Teenagers probably won't be interested in doing the traditional trick-or-treat from door-to-door but that is no reason to leave them out. Create halloween gift baskets and include glow sticks, Halloween 3 DVD, halloween masks, or just give them halloween ringtones. Some might even want the Harry Potter costume to wear to a halloween party.
