make a long-lasting, reliable sword

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pen knife/sharp knife
  • 1.5 metres of wood
  • sanding paper
  • cloth/red material
  • drill
  • jigsaw (the tool, not the puzzle)
  • nails
  • hammer
  1. Step 1

First, you need to cut off the 50cm off your piece of wood. I've told you to get an extra 50cm for the hand guard and a little extra just in case.

  2. Step 2

Using the 1m piece of wood, you need to cut one end of it into a point using the jigsaw. Like a sword point if you're not sure. Then, when you've done that sand it down. if you want it sharp, just leave it for now. (You're better off sanding it down!!!)

  3. Step 3

Right, after you've sanded the end down, sand down the sides too. Again, if you want it sharp, just miss it out again. (You're better off sanding it down!!!)

  4. Step 4

At the opposite end of the point, sand the wood into a cylinder shaped handle. Give the handle around 5.5 inches or more. It all depends on what you are happy with. (Make sure it fits your hand though!!!)

  5. Step 5

Move back on to the 0.5m of wood. Maybe 3 or 4 inches of it would be a good proportion to the handle. Measure the width of the sword. Then, draw two dots exactly the same width onto the new piece of wood (if you're confused, ITS THE 3 OR 4 INCHES OF WOOD YOU JUST CUT!!!) in the centre. make sure its not too close to the edge, otherwise it might break.

  6. Step 6

Now, it gets a bit confusing here so pay attention. Look down the blade. Look at the shape. Now draw the shape on the other piece of wood. make sure that it is not too small or too big. be as accurate as possible. Then, cut the shape out from the wood. Then slip it onto the handle. If its loose, you can use wood glue.

  7. Step 7

On the handle, use the cloth or whatever you were using, to wrap around the handle. Make sure yo fix it tightly.

  8. Step 8

To make it sharp, use the knife to cut away at the wood at the point and on the edges.

Tips & Warnings
