Blueberries, which are native to North America, are grown in approximately 38 states. The Secretary of Agriculture of the United States of America declared July, Blueberry Month. Blueberries are a top antioxidant fruit and approximately 90% of blueberries grown worldwide, are actually from North America. Let's celebrate National Blueberry Month!

Instructions

Step1
Grow your own blueberries.
Step2
Support farmers, and visit local Farmer's Markets for blueberries.
Step3
Attend a Blueberry Festival near you (see resources).
Step4
Pick blueberries at U-pick farm (see resources).
Step5
Bake recipes that include blueberries, top them on fruit salads, or eat them just as they are.
Step6
Educate children about blueberries (and yourself). Find out how they are grown, where they are grown, and the season for blueberries (see resources).

Tips & Warnings

  • When you get your blueberries home, rinse them. Line a cookie sheet with paper towels. and pour your blueberries onto the cookie sheet. Pat dry. In freezer zip bags, freeze two cups per bag to enjoy your blueberries throughout the winter months. They are great in pancakes and muffins.
  • Remove any stems before freezing.
  • Freezer life for blueberries - about 1 year.
