Things You'll Need:
- Algaecide
- Swimming pool shock treatment
- Swimming pool brush
-
Step 1
Skim your pool
Prior to treatment, you need to remove any debris from your swimming pool. -
Step 2
pH control
Make sure you adjust the pH level of your swimming pool. It’s best to keep your pool in a range between 7.2 and 7.4 in order for the chlorine to be effective. -
Step 3
Algaecide treatment
Now you’re ready to treat your pool with a high quality Algaecide. Make sure you read and understand the direction prior to use. -
Step 4
Now you’re ready to shock your swimming pool to remove chemical residue.
-
Step 5
Run your filtration system making sure you backwash sand or de-filter which will clean the filter after treatment. If you have a cartridge system, simply change the cartridge.
-
Step 6
Brush the sides and bottom of your pool to remove any remaining algae.
-
Step 7
If algae continues to grow, have your water tested. Remember chlorine needs to be between 7.2 and 7.4. However, if you have any contaminates, or high levels of phosphorus or nitrates, it can weaken or limit chlorine activity.
