The Liquid Rules brought to you by TSA. Yes, they are put in place for our safety, but sometimes our frustration causes us to forget their necessity. Be prepared for your trip by knowing the rules and packing accordingly. It will ensure that your trip starts and end pleasantly as you travel through security at the airport.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Personal, reusable 3 oz containers. Buy an assortment - snap top, spray bottles, twist off - based on the products you want to bring with you.
  • Travel sized packages of non-transferrable liquids or gels (i.e. shaving cream or toothpaste).
  1. Step 1

Before you start packing for your trip, head to the Container Store or a travel good store for personal containers. Buy multiple 3 oz. containers that you can re-use every time you travel. This will allow you to bring whatever you want on your weekend get-away, instead of depending on cheap low-quality hotel shampoo and bar soap just because you can't bring along your economy sized conditioner.

  2. Step 2

Fill your containers with all the liquids and gels that you can transfer out of the standard bottle. Shampoo, conditioner, nail polish remover, face wash, toner, gel soap, moisturizer, body lotion: all these things can transfer easily into 3 oz containers and can be grabbed on the go in all your future travels.

  3. Step 3

Make sure to stock up on travel-size products too. It's harder to squeeze out toothpaste or shaving cream from their original packaging, so just try to have these on hand for travel situations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Know the rules. 3 oz containers, 1 quart zip-lock bag per passenger, have it out when you go through security. In terms of travel, preparation is key. Plan ahead because as far as traveling goes, surprises are rarely a good thing.
  • Make sure all your containers are sealed tightly. The last thing you want is to have all of your carefully packaged liquids mixing together and leaking on the rest of your clothes before you even walk off the plane!
