As writers, we need a great deal of support. Coming together with other writers is an inspirational boost. Find writers in the area you live and come together for a wonderful writer's paradise.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Flyers
  • Meeting spot
  • Writers
Step1
Find a destination where you will meet. For example, local library, coffee shop, recreation center, park, or your home.
Step2
Pick a time frame and day. Will it be weekly, bi-weekly, once a month, during the day, or in the evening.
Step3
Design an eye opener flyer about the workshop. Display it at your local library, food store, and anywhere a business owner will let you advertise.
Step4
Decide on whether you want to do this for money or support. Doing the workshop for both money and support is fine, but do it with style. Offer the workshop for FREE, but offer your services for money. Design a folder and add take-home writing prompts, a yearly-calendar of the meeting dates and times, your phone number and email address in case someone has to get in touch with you. In the back of the folder, display your services. Your services may be a writing critique service, tutoring for writing, business writing and so on.
Step5
Design creative writing prompts. Try to offer fun prompts that no one has ever seen or heard of before. Design writing games, offer door prizes, and refreshments.
Step6
Keep the atmosphere friendly and inviting. Let others share their stories and encourage feedback. Although, you are the leader of the workshop, be open to other ideas from your fellow writers. Others are creative, too and you want your workshop to be friendly and giving as well.
Step7
If you can pull it off, try and get guest speakers to come in and speak. Call the local paper and try to find inspiring writers to inspire your group!
Step8
Have an end of the year Christmas/Holiday party. Suggest a pot luck dinner where everyone brings something. Remember, this is for FREE and although you are the leader, it is everyone's workshop.
Step9
Above all, be responsible and reliable. People will depend on you to run the show. If your workshop becomes a hit, then start a board of directors. Find a President (You), Vice President, Secretary, and a Coordinator. No need for a treasure as it is for free. Eventually, your workshop can offer a newsletter to all members and even others in your community.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most libraries will let people use their building if the services are for free.
  • Once a month is the most common for a meeting date.
