Real homemade Ginger Ale is nothing like the artifically flavored stuff you buy in the store. Make your own and be healthy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large stainless steel or enamelware pot of at least 3 gallon size.
  • 1 gallon water (for ale)
  • 2 cups water (for making extract
  • 2 ounces fresh ginger root
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon real vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon yeast
  1. Step 1

    Chop up the ginger and add to two cups of boiling water. Simmer this on very low heat for twenty minutes.

  2. Step 2

    In the meantime, boil the gallon of water and two cups of sugar for one minute and take off the heat.

  3. Step 3

    Pour the boiled ginger into a blender and blend on high for one minute.

  4. Step 4

    Strain the herbal extract into the sugar water. Cool to room temperature and then add the vanilla extract.

  5. Step 5

    Add the yeast and stir well. Let set for about thirty minutes.

  6. Step 6

    Bottle and let set at room temperature in an out of the way, dark, cupboard or a box out of direct heat for about 48 hours.

  7. Step 7

    Siphon into plastic water or soda bottles and refrigerate.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure all your pots, utensils, and bottles are sterile. You can do this with a dishwasher or with bleach and water rinse. 1 teaspoon in sink full of hottest water and rinse well afterwards.
  • Pour the spent herbs on a compost pile.
  • Only use plastic bottles as glass bottles can explode with homemade ginger ale.
