Summer refreshment!
Summer refreshment!

The later the summer grows, the hotter the weather becomes, and we search out clean, crisp flavors to ease the heat.

This delicious rum-based cocktail quickly throws off the heat of the summer and is a lovely start to a relaxing summer evening.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 oz light rum (Bacardi Silver is nice)
  • Juice of 1 lime (Fresh lime, please!)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3 sprigs of fresh mint
  • 1 sprig of fresh Stevia (a sweet herb)
  • Soda water
  • Old fashioned glass, or any heavy bottomed glass
  1. Step 1

Toss the mint, stevia, and sugar into a mixing glass with a splash of the soda water.

  2. Step 2

Gently muddle them until the sugar is dissolved and you can smell the mint. Make sure the mint is well bruised.

  3. Step 3

Add the lime juice and the rum, shake well with ice, strain and serve over cracked ice.

  4. Step 4

    Garnish with mint and lime.

Tips & Warnings
  • Alternatively, make a pitcher! Muddle a handful of mint and some sugar in the bottom of a pitcher. Wedge up some limes, squeeze them into the pitcher, then toss the limes in. Throw in a handful of cracked ice, pour in about 1/2 a pitcher of rum and 1/4 pitcher of soda water. Stir well. Sit in the back yard and drink until the pitcher is gone.
  • Always drink responsibly! Never drink alcohol on an empty stomach - keep plenty of snacks at hand.
  • Alternate cocktails with water to combat dehydration. Alcohol is a diuretic!
  • Please use a designated driver.
