Ever sit at work or school and smell something and realize it's cat pee? Like on your shirt or bookbag? I haven't. But for those of you who have, here are some ways to remedy that.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
For your clothing, rugs, book bags, socks, sheets, etc. that might wreak of cat urine, put them in washer with detergent like usual. Just add a 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar with the load, wash, and smell. It should be all better.
Step2
For the area in your carpet that was peed on, do this:
1. Soak up with paper towel as soon as you find it.

2. Wash with regular vinegar water (75% water, 25% vinegar)

3. Then toss some baking soda over the area. A mild reaction of vinegar and baking soda lifts the smells out.

4. Then wash the area with a 2/3 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a tablespoon of dish soap. Scrub with something that has bristles and can reach to the bottom of the carpet (floor scrubber, hair brush...)

5. After it's dry, vacuum it up. If it still smells, do it again :D
Step3
To prevent further cat peeing:

1. If your cat pees oddly too often, it might have a bladder infection. Take it to the vet to resolve this.

2. Keep the litter boxes clean. And when you clean them, clean them well. Cats won't use dirty litter boxes. Use clumping litter.

3. Does your cat need re-trained? Confine your cat to a room with no rugs, carpet, or anything near comfortable to do its business. Put the clean litter box in that room and it will eventually learn to use it. Gradually allow it to go roam in two rooms, then three.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a window or two open when you're using the chemicals in the carpet.
  • Never beat the cat, that would just make it afraid and dislike you, potentially causing more peeing problems.
