How to Remove the Pit From an Olive thumbnail
Olives as hors d'oeuvres

The best way to remove an olive pit depends on the type of olive. Some of them are not too keen on giving up the pit, while some, especially black olives, just need a slight squeeze. Put one end of the olive against your thumb, and two fingers on the other end. Push the black olive with the thumb, and it should come right out. There are three ways to deal with less cooperative olives. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place several olives side by side on a cutting board. Press the flat side of a large blade knife against the olives. Slam the knife with the palm of your hand.

    • 2

Place several olives side by side on the cutting board. Force a rolling pin over the olives, and apply pressure as you go. It may take several attempts to force the pits out.

    • 3

Invest in a cherry-pitter, which can be effective on olives, or apply a paring knife to the olive. Slice all the way around the olive, then pull out the pit.
