Things You'll Need:
- Originality
- Creativity
- Organization
- Writing & Proofreading skills
-
Step 1
Write a list of potential articles. You may never write half of them, but write the titles down anyway, just to brainstorm.
-
Step 2
Choose topics that interest you. Draw from your hobbies, passions, and personal experiences. Even if you're familiar with the subject, double-check your facts for accuracy. If you're not sure about something, look it up.
-
Step 3
Make a quick outline of your article by putting a key word or phrase in each "step" box. You can come back to elaborate on each point later, but this helps you to organize your thoughts and make sure your article flows smoothly from step to step.
-
Step 4
Consider the "why?". It's not always enough to tell your readers, "do this" or "don't do that". If your reader knows the reason behind the recommendation, it helps them to better understand and remember. If you're not sure why a step should be done a certain way, look it up.
-
Step 5
Keep it short and to the point. Don't over-elaborate, using wordy descriptions when a few short sentences will do. Break up a point into more than one paragraph if you have to, to make it easier to read. Read the entire article aloud to yourself before you publish it, correcting errors and making sure it flows smoothly.
-
Step 6
Copy and paste your article into MS Word or a comparable program that can catch spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. Nothing ruins a good article like simple mistakes that could be easily corrected if you took the time to be thorough. Your readers deserve nothing less.
-
Step 7
Provide links to sources and websites with more information about your topic in the "resources" section at the end of your article. This gives readers access to more information if they need it.
-
Step 8
Embellish your article with graphics. Not only do photos make an article more interesting, but they also help to illustrate the point and make it more memorable.
-
Step 9
Whatever your article is about, make sure you use enough key words that the Google Ad software can figure out what the article is about, and post the kinds of ads which will appeal to your readers. Lots of key words make it more likely that the ads posted on your page will have something to do with the subject of your article.
If the ads have nothing to do with your subject matter, they're less likely to interest your readers or generate clicks. You only make money on your article when readers click on ads that interest them (you get a percentage), so do your best to make sure they're relevant.
