Over the summer our lips are exposed to hot sun and extreme conditions such as a high degree of humidity or the lack thereof. It is important to take care of our lips to make sure they stay soft and moist all year round. Here are tips to help stop your lips from drying out and cracking over the lazy days of summer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Lip balm or lipstick
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Water
  • Humidifier
  • Beeswas
  • Hydrocortisone
  • Antibacterial cream

Step1
Do not lick your lips. It will take the natural oils from around your mouth and you will end up with a rash. Apply a balm instead.
Step2
While outside, coat your lips with lip balm several times during the day. Reapply when you wipe your lips or drink or eat.
Step3
Carmex is great for the lips. It contains beeswax which is an old fashioned, but still effective remedy.
Step4
Applying a zinc product before sleep is a good way to protect your lips against nighttime damage associated with salivation during sleep.
Step5
Put sunscreen on your lips. This will protect against chapping and skin cancer.
Step6
Drink tons of water. Moisturizing from the inside out is important, especially in winter.
Step7
Keeping a humidifier handy is an idea in very dry environments.
Step8
Wear lipstick. It helps protect against skin cancer as well as moisturizing the lips.
Step9
Use petroleum based products on the lips to moisturize and protect.
Step10
Sometimes chapped lips are caused by allergies. Try eliminating things like gum and candies. Change toothpastes and mouthwash and see what happens.
Step11
You need B vitamins to keep your lips healthy. Beef up on the supplements.
Step12
If you have a case of chapped lips that is severe enough to become infected use an over the counter product like Neosporin. Hydrocortisone will help with swelling, and should be used at night while sleeping.
