Things You'll Need:
- Holy Bible
- Praise & Worship Music
- Spiritual Journal and Pen
- Devotionals
-
Step 1
Don’t allow guilt to keep you from spending time with God. Having a relationship with God is dynamic, and your quiet times should reflect this. Sometimes they will be spontaneous and filled with rich sweetness; other times dry requiring determination to even spend the time. God understands these ebbs and flows; so don’t feel guilty.
-
Step 2
Make your quiet time with God a pleasurable experience instead of a duty. Prepare your emotions, mind and body before you begin. Approach each instance with holy anticipation that God is going to reveal more of Him to you each day.
-
Step 3
Fill your quiet time with variety. While you may enjoy structure and routine, avoid doing the same thing over and over until it becomes a boring habit. To keep your quiet time fresh and vibrant, vary the things you do such as:
a) Devote one quiet time to just listening to God by being silent yet alert for the entire scheduled time.
b) Read out loud from several chapters in the Psalms. Emphasize each word or phrase and think about its application to your life circumstances.
c) Sing Scriptures to the Lord; after all, He rejoices over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17).
