If you have upgraded your Microsoft Office program from Office 2003 to Office 2007, you have probably noticed that the design has changed dramatically. In order to assist you with learning how to use common (and not so common) commands in Office 2007, Microsoft created interactive guides that can show you how to locate those commands using an Office 2003 interface.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

Microsoft created an interactive guide for Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Outlook. You can find links to each of these guides under the Resource section at the end of this article. If you don't have these links readily available, you can access the guide by opening the Office program, accessing the Help feature, and using "Interactive" as the search term.

  2. Step 2

Once you access the interactive guide for the program of your choice, click on "Start the Guide". For the purposes of this how-to article, I'll be using the Microsoft Word 2007 Interactive Guide.

  3. Step 3

The Office program Interactive Guide will open in a new window. (If you have some kind of pop-up blocker installed, you may need to hold down the SHIFT or CTRL key when you click on "Start the Guide") Click on "Start" to begin.

  4. Step 4

The guide will begin by displaying the Word 2003 environment. Using your mouse, complete a command that you are familiar with in 2003, but do not know how to do in 2007. For example, suppose you want to know how to run the Spelling and Grammar tool in Word 2007. In the Word 2003 environment of the guide, click on Tools and select Spelling and Grammar.

Note that if you allow your mouse to hover over the Spelling and Grammar command on the Tools menu (or any other command for that matter), a tool tip will display giving you written instructions on how to complete the command in Word 2007.

  5. Step 5

Once you click on the command, the guide will then switch to the Word 2007 environment and give you a step-by-step visual on how to complete the command.

  6. Step 6

If you would like to look up another command, left click anywhere on the guide. It will revert back to the Word 2003 environment so that you can try a different command.

on 7/11/2008 This is very helpful! I wondered how I would be able to quickly get up to speed since I'm quite famiiary with Office 2003, but not savvy at all with 2007. Thanks again. *****
