When the economic status of our country is down and gas prices are up, if you drive a gas guzzler you may be in serious financial trouble. Now it's time to start the search for a gas saving vehicle (for most of you) but do you know where to start or how to shop for one?

From Quick Guide: Natural Gas Vehicle
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a new car lot. First you need a place to start. The perfect place to start looking for a gas saver is on a new car lot. You may want to start in a big city that has quite a few large car lots. You may pay a more buying a new car or a certified pre-owned, but at least if you buy it from a large new car lot, you know that the car has probably been well maintained, the car may have a warranty with it and you have a better chance of finding a gas efficient vehicle. It is recommended that you stay away from small hometown lots, because odds are you won't find what you are looking for and you probably won't get what you pay for.

  2. Step 2

Look for a foreign vehicle. Secondly, foreign vehicles make for the best gas saving vehicles around and they also last longer than some American-made vehicles. These cars are exceptionally expensive; however, they can pay for themselves pretty fast at the pump and at the shop. If you decide to buy a foreign vehicle, it is recommended that you buy either a Toyota or a Kia.

  3. Step 3

Steer away from big SUVs and trucks. Lastly, when searching for a gas saver to drive back and forth to work and for your leisure time, you should stay away from big trucks and SUVs. Bigger trucks and SUVs are of course bigger, have bigger engines and they require a whole lot more gas on a more regular basis to maintain. These vehicles tend to also be as pricey if not cost more than your basic gas saver, thus it is recommended that you don't purchase these types of vehicles.

Tips & Warnings
  • When gas prices are out of control, you have to shop for a gas-efficient vehicle; which means you may not want to buy the car you want just yet (because it may be harsher on gas than the one you need to have at the time).
