Things You'll Need
- 5 large apples, sliced thin
- 2 tablespoons of dry bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 tablespoon of water
- whip cream
- covered glass baking casserole dish (quart size)

How to Make Scalloped Apples

Fry the bread crumbs in butter until slightly browned.

Butter the glass baking dish, quart size. Place in a layer of apples; scatter a few bread crumbs over the apples. Sprinkle one cup of white sugar over apples. Add salt. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used, with the exception of the brown sugar.

Top the dish with bread crumbs. Drip vanilla mixed with 1 tablespoon water over the top. Finish by sprinkling brown sugar on top. Place cover over dish.

Bake apple dish for approximately one hour, or until apples are tender. Bake 400 degrees for the first 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees for the last 45 minutes. For a slight crispness, uncover backing dish during the last 10 to 15 minutes before you remove the dish from the oven.

Serve with whip cream when cool.
