Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Internet
- AOL email account
- Microsoft Outlook
-
Step 1
Open the Outlook application and look for the “Tool” option on the menu bar. After clicking on this option, select “Email accounts.” Doing this will give you the perfect opportunity to add a brand new email account or change the settings in an existing one. It's a good idea to have the necessary email server settings near you when adding a brand new email account to Outlook. Usually, you can get access to these settings by contacting your email provider or visiting the support section of your email account.
-
Step 2
Choose the “Add a new email account” option and click the “Next” button to continue setting up AOL in Outlook. Select the “IMAP" option and then click “Next.” You'll be instantly guided through the process of setting up this new email account. Although you may see an option for entering “POP3” settings, it's best not to pick it. In order for Outlook to correctly access your AOL messages, you'll need to stick with the “IMAP' selection.
-
Step 3
Enter your desired name in the available box when prompted. This will be the name shown to anyone that receives an email message from you. You can decide to input your first and last name or even a business name. Next, you'll need to type in your full email address, AOL username, and password. For the incoming mail server box, enter “Imap.aol.com.” The outgoing mail server box will require you to enter a different address, which is “Smtp.aol.com.”
-
Step 4
Click the “More settings” button and then the “Outgoing server” tab. After doing this, click “My outgoing server requires authentication.” You'll also need to click the “Use same settings as my incoming mail server.” On the “Advanced” tab, change the number located in the “Outgoing mail” box to 587.
-
Step 5
Select the “Ok” button, click the “Next” option, and you will be completely finished with configuring Outlook to work with your AOL email account. Messages sent from and received in your AOL email account will be automatically synchronized in Outlook. Instead of having to log into your email account via a web browser or the AOL application, you'll be able to easily access it from your Outlook application.
