After education and staking the counties you're going to do business, you must first of all pledge collateral and then purchase your bondsman license. Before you start your career as a bondsman, you must pledge and maintain collateral in the minimum of $10,000. After pledging, you can write up to 4 times your collateral in bonds (ex. if you have $30,000 in collateral, you can write up to $120,000 in bonds). After pledging, a professional bondsman must pay $400 to the South Carolina Department of Insurance before you can officially begin writing bonds.
