How to Change the Desktop Time & Date

The time and date on your desktop is recorded whenever files are created or modified. To change the time and date on your desktop, or to ensure they are correct, follow the steps below.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Click the "Start" button at the bottom left of your computer screen.

  2. Step 2

    Click the "Control Panel" icon.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options" icon (may also be just "Date and Time").

  4. Step 4

    Choose "Change the Date and Time" task, or pick the "Date and Time" icon. Either one will take you the same place.

  5. Step 5

    Once in the Date and Time Properties box, you can now set the time and date.Change the hour manually by typing in the number, or use the up and down arrows (to the right). Do the same to change the minutes and seconds.

  6. Step 6

    Change the date by clicking the drop-down box next to the month. Then use the up and down arrows to change the year.

  7. Step 7

    Save what you have just entered by clicking "Apply" then "OK."

Tips & Warnings
  • If you accidentally enter a wrong date or time, don't panic. Repeat the steps above and you will be fine.
  • To have your computer automatically adjust during daylight savings time, make sure to check that box.
