How to Paint Window Blinds
Blinds don't have to be drab and colorless. All you need to do is paint them. Painting your window blinds is a fun and easy project that can be completed in a few hours (not including the time it takes for the paint to dry). Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Set of window blinds
- Outdoor enamel spray paint
- Primer (in spray can)
- Rubber gloves
- Newspaper
- Graph paper
- Colored pencils

Preparation

Unless the blinds are new, clean them thoroughly.

Hang the blinds on the window. Count how many slats are visible when the blinds is closed normally.

Using your graph paper and colored pencils, decide on a pattern. You can have alternating bands of color or bands that go from thick to thin. You should use one row of boxes for 1-2 slats.

Count out how many slats you will need of each color.

Purchase your paint and primer.

Removing the end caps and the metal cover from the bottom bar.

You will notice several knots. Unknot or cut the cord above the knot.

Pull the cord out of the slats.

Slide the slats from the cording on each side.
Painting the Blind

Place all the slats on newspaper in a well-ventilated room or outside. The slats should not be touching.

Put on your rubber gloves.

Coat each slat with a coat of primer. Primer will guarantee the paint will stick and cover any flaws on the blinds. Spray in a back and forth motion going from one end of the slat to the other.

Wait until the blinds are dry. Then flip them over and coat the back side of each slat.

Once the slats are dry, divide them into color groups (if using more color).

Repeat steps 3 and 4 with each color you are using.

Allow the blind to dry overnight.
Finishing

Lay out your slats in the pattern that you desire.

Carefully rethread the slats onto the blind and insert the cords.

Replace the bottom bar and knot the treads.

Replace the end caps and rehang the blinds. Enjoy!

Take note how your blinds are threaded to make it easer to rethread.
Do not stop spraying in the middle of a blind or you'll get drips.
