Instructions

  1. Make Dog Clothes

    • 1

Purchase a book of patterns or locate free dog clothes patterns online. If you're a beginner, you may wish to start with a simple dog clothing pattern. "Circle of Crafters" offers a free dog clothing pattern that's cute and simple.

    • 2

Measure your dog. In order to obtain your dog's chest size, you must measure around the largest part of his or her chest.

    • 3

Print out the pattern that corresponds with the size of your dog. While sizes will vary according to each pattern, you can correspond the measurement of your dog's chest with the measurement on the pattern.

    • 4

Lay the fabric out on a flat surface. Place the pattern on top of the fabric. Use straight pins to hold the pattern into place on the fabric.

    • 5

Cut the fabric, following the pattern. If the dog clothes pattern indicates a "fold," as most do, carefully cut on the fold.

    • 6

Remove pins. Unfold the pieces that have been cut. You should now have two pieces. Place the two pieces right-sides together. Use a 1/4 inch seam to sew them together. Avoid sewing fabric that has been marked with an "X" on the pattern. The "X" usually indicates that a button, velcro, or other fastening device will be placed in this area.

    • 7

Turn the fabric inside-out once you've finished sewing. Attach buttons or velcro as indicated on the pattern.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure there aren't any pins left in the fabric when your dog puts on their new outfit!
