Once you install a satellite dish, you need to know how to point the satellite dish so that you get a strong signal. Installing the dish is easy, but getting a strong signal might take a little bit of time. Once you have the receivers hooked up to a TV, you are ready to point the dish so that you see a strong signal on the TV screen. This part of the installation will require two people. One will watch the signal on the TV and one will point the dish.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Socket wrench
  • Steady hands
  • Connected receiver box and TV

Step1
Install the dish outdoors and hook up the coax to all receivers in the house. Then, attach the coax to the TVs and you are ready to point the satellite dish.
Step2
Press the "Action" button and then the "Guide" button. This will take you to a screen that has a selection for set up. Click the "Set up" button. This will take you to a screen with installation on the screen. Click on "Installation." This takes you to the screen where the signal strength is measured.
Step3
Click the button for "Position" and a pop up box will open. Enter your zip code and this will give you another box that will tell you the proper alignment for your location. Write down the directions to use when moving the satellite dish.
Step4
Arrow over and go back to the screen with the satellite signal displayed. Go to the satellite dish and move the dish slightly checking the signal each time you move the dish. Watch the side marker in the instructions you wrote down.
Step5
Tighten the bolts on the dish after the signal is strong. Check all TV and receivers to make sure they have a strong signal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Move the dish slightly when finding the right position.
  • Keep the bolts semi-tight so you control the movement of the dish.
  • Do not move the dish more than 1/4 inch at a time. That could throw off the signal.
