Step 1
Make reservations. Plenty of New York City restaurants require or encourage reservations, as they can get quite busy fairly quickly. If you're eating near the theater district or in midtown Manhattan, reservations are almost a necessity.
-
Step 2
Sit at the bar. Many Manhattan eateries have gorgeous bars stocked with the best liquors money can buy. You can order anything from the menu at the bar, as well. If you're in the mood for margaritas and mojitos, why not order your dinner where you can eat in peace?
-
Step 3
Visit areas known for culinary goodies. Arthur Avenue in the Bronx is famous for Italian ristorantes and pastry shops. Harlem is a great place to sample ethnic foods and down-home cooking at its best. Chinatown is (not surprisingly) the best place for all of your favorite Chinese foods.
-
Step 4
Visit a specialty shop. New York is famous for its many delis, salad bars and takeout joints. You can purchase quick Thai, Mexican, Korean, barbecue and even Caribbean food throughout the city.
-
Step 5
Head down to Greenwich Village. You can snag everything from hot dogs and falafel to Irish pub fare and Italian food. The Village is also a great place to browse, as it's jam-packed with boutiques and vintage shops.
-
Step 6
Play it up. Visit Tavern on the Green for an intimate, exquisite dinner in one of the city's most treasured and coveted spots. Or book a dinner cruise on the Hudson for a romantic evening on the water.
