Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- Hugs
- Memory of when you were eight years old
-
Step 1
1. I promise not to yell anymore. This is it. No more yelling.
-
Step 2
2. When Johnny does something to make me yell, I will stop and read this article. I will leave this article in a place easy to find. I will make copies if necessary.
-
Step 3
3. I promised to hug Johnny whenever he misbehaves and explain to him that his behavior is unacceptable. I will engage in a conversation with him about his actions.
-
Step 4
4. I promise to teach, educate, motivate and encourage my children. I will serve an an example and give them the tools they need to grow. I will spend time with them so they are not idle.
-
Step 5
5. I promise to read with my child, listen to classical music with them, go for walks with them and teach them how to cook gourmet meals. I will learn how to cook gourmet meals if I do not know how.
-
Step 6
6. As of today, I will be a calming force in the life of my child. I will respect them and demand that they respect me. They will be encouraged by my words; not torn down. I will not yell. I will not scream.

on 7/14/2008 These are wonderfully idealist goals. But, in raising 4 kids, working full time, I found myself starting to yell--and would simply distance myself from the offending kid, takeaq deep breath, refocus and only then was ready to proceed with your therapeutic tips.
