Things You'll Need:
- Access to the Internet
- Appointment calendar
- Writing instrument
-
Step 1
Make a list of your goals and objectives. A student looking to begin studying as an undergraduate seeking to follow up with post graduate work will have different needs than one who wants to study in a particular field for work. Some students may simply require an associate degree to achieve their goals.
-
Step 2
Evaluate your finances. Grants and scholarships can take you far. Student loans are available and they commonly have low interest rates.
-
Step 3
Consider your location. Do you want to commute or stay on site? How far are you willing to travel for your studies?
-
Step 4
Make a list of the following:
Location requirements
Goals and objectives
Prospective majors
Large universities or small colleges that interest you
Financial plan for college education
Academic standards
Social life
Religious affiliation, if applicable -
Step 5
Set an appointment with your high school guidance counselor. She can help you create a list of colleges and universities that meet your requirements.
-
Step 6
Visit the colleges and universities on your list. Visiting the sites is the best way to get a real understanding of the higher learning institution.
