Quilting your own table runner allows you to customize a table runner to match the decor of your dining room or living area. You can also take it a step further and quilt multiple table runners to change out throughout the year to reflect seasons, holidays or other important events.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose your fabric and lay out all the materials you will need. Load your sewing machine with the thread you want to use and place the settings to do simple diagonal lines that run down the sections.

  2. Step 2

Cut the fabric for a simple four patch table runner. You can find table runner patterns, or use a regular quilt pattern and just put together one to two sections depending on how wide they are. Once you have the pieces cut and laid out, pin them and start sewing them together.

  3. Step 3

Pin batting to the back of the panels, then place a piece of fabric over this for the backing. Complete the quilting by sewing down the panel seams with the lines mentioned in Step 1. Once all of the quilting is done, you are ready to finish the edges.

  4. Step 4

Finish the edges by stitching them shut and sewing on a border with bias, ribbon or other fabric you want to use. If you have any trouble, consult the pattern and make sure you are using the right settings as recommended by your sewing machine manual.
