Instructions

    • 1

Determine what kind of physical shape you're in. Spin classes are hard. The instructors will push you. It's important that you listen to your body and rest when you need to.

    • 2

Train to get in shape for indoor spin classes. Spend some time exercising on a stationary bike. Add some intensity, either faster revolutions per minute or increased resistance.

    • 3

Buy cycling shorts and spin shoes. It's more comfortable spinning for fitness with cycling shorts. They prevent unwanted chaffing. It's easier to push and pull the bike pedals with spin shoes.

    • 4

Purchase a good water bottle and keep it full. You'll drink a lot of water during a spin class. It's important to stay hydrated.

    • 5

Get a heart rate monitor to gauge your heart rate during exercise if the stationary bikes at your gym don't have them built in.

    • 6

Find out what certifications and experience your spin instructor has. A good instructor will be able to teach you the correct form and get off the bike to coach beginners.

    • 7

Ask your spin instructor to help you adjust your bike seat. Your upstroke knee shouldn't be higher than your hip bone and your downstroke knee should be about 85 percent straight.
