How to Make a Two-in-One Jig for Guiding Drill Bits

Perhaps you struggle, when drilling, to get just the angle you need. Struggle no more and make a two-in-one jig for your drill. It's a trick that woodworkers have relied upon for centuries, and now it can be yours as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a good piece of crap wood in your shop. It doesn't have to be very long at all, though a scrap should have some heft, like a 2 inch by 4 inch board versus a shingle.

    • 2

Take out your square and mark a 90 degree angle at one end of the piece of scrap wood.

    • 3

Flip the scrap wood over and use your square to make a 45 degree angle on the other end as you make a two-in-one jig for guiding drill bits.

    • 4

Fire up your miter saw and carefully cut the 45 degree angle at one end of the scrap wood, then cut a 90 degree angle at the other end.

    • 5

Remove any excess wood so the angles you have cut in your scrap wood are nicely defined.

    • 6

Use the 90 degree angle of the two-in-one jig to drill perpendicular holes, the 45 degree angle to drill holes at 45 degree angles. Hold the jig in place as you begin drilling, then remove it to finish drilling.
