Feel good about yourself, help others and save money on your taxes by donating new furniture to a charity of your choice. Choose what type of furniture you want to donate and set a budget to help you stay on track.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide which organization you'd like to donate to. Contact the organization and get a wish list so don't waste your money or disappoint the charity by purchasing items they don't need or can't use.

  2. Step 2

Shop for new furniture with the wish list in mind. If possible, ask a representative to shop with you so he can help you choose fabrics and patterns that work best for the organization's needs. Look for quality pieces that will last and fall within your budget.

  3. Step 3

Arrange to have the furniture you purchase delivered to its final destination. Keep the delivery paperwork with the purchasing paperwork to prove the value of the furniture for tax purposes. If you take possession of the furniture first, it loses a certain amount of value.

  4. Step 4

Request a copy of the delivery confirmation paperwork that's signed upon receipt of the furniture.

  5. Step 5

Ask for a receipt from the charity organization, aside from the delivery confirmation. Make sure the receipt states that the furniture is brand new. It should also note the date the furniture was delivered.

  6. Step 6

Store all the paperwork regarding the furniture in a safe location so you can deduct the purchase price as a charitable contribution when you file your taxes.
