1
Start with a pre-cut and folded card that you've purchased or one that you've created yourself. Just fold a piece of cardstock in half, crease it with a bone folder or your fingernail and trim it to fit an envelope you've got on hand. Choose one in the recipient's favorite color and add a layer of themed patterned paper to suit the occasion.

2
Adorn the front of the card with a meaningful photo. Affix a picture of you as a baby on a Mother's Day card or an image of you and your friend mugging for the camera to create a funny birthday card, for example. If the recipient has always wanted to go to Hawaii, create a collage of images you've clipped from vacation magazines.

3
Affix a piece of memorabilia to the front of the card on a piece of coordinating cardstock. Add a snippet from a postcard, a business card from a favorite restaurant or a ticket stub to remind a loved one of a time you've shared when creating a Valentine's Day, Anniversary or Thank You card, for instance.

Add a meaningful song lyric, inside joke and line from a favorite movie to the inside of the card in addition to a personal, handwritten note. You can also find an applicable quote to suit the tone or message you're hoping to convey.
