How to Become a Certified SCUBA Cylinder Inspector

Becoming certified in SCUBA is vital to the safety of you and those with whom you dive. An important aspect of this training is the cylinder, or tank, inspection process. If something goes wrong with the tank it can be a matter of life and death. Become a certified SCUBA cylinder inspector and bring a new level of awareness and safety to your diving expeditions.

Instructions

    • 1

Attend a class to become a visual tank inspector. These are offered by dive schools and are generally held as one all-day class. There are weekend classes and two day classes available, too, depending on the dive school in your area. Find a class that is convenient for your schedule.

    • 2

Read up or be certified in other areas of SCUBA. Generally, people are going for their visual inspection certification after they have already been certified as a SCUBA diver or instructor. This is more of an add-on than just a separate career path.

    • 3

Pass all the tests at the end of the course. At the end of the course, there will be an array of tests you must pass to get your cylinder inspection certification. These will include practical tests where you inspect a cylinder in front of the inspector and a knowledge test on the material covered in the course.

    • 4

Store your cylinder inspection certificate in a safe, preferably waterproof place with all your gear. This allows you to prove you are certified to inspect cylinders to authorities or clients at a moment's notice.

Tips & Warnings
