How to Use Bull lip for Crab Bait
Hard shell crab like Blue Crab are especially enticed by bull lip. Bull lip is just as it sounds, a tougher piece of meat from the cheek of the cow. It can be used on a single string or in pots as commercial fishermen do. Bull lip is fairly easy to find and use with a few simple steps and tips.

Contact a local butcher to find bull lip. They will be able to cut it into smaller pieces and prepare it the way you need for your next crabbing trip. Make sure to get it fresh the day you are going to go out and keep it in an ice chest full of ice.

Use bull lip for trotlining. Since bull lip is durable, inexpensive and easy to get, it is perfect bait for trotlining. It can be used in pots as well by securing it to the pot with a bait sack or on a piece of baiting line. Just make sure it's secure, so it doesn't go floating out of the pot, causing the crab to not enter the pot to get fed.

Make sure you have all your crabbing gear handy before baiting pots or lines and setting out to the open water. Aside from the gear listed, always carry sunscreen, towels, food and other day trip essentials to make the crabbing excursion fun and exciting for all.

Ask for a discount if you are buying a large quantity of bull lip or offer to split the cost with other crabbers on the trip or in your area. This may also be cheaper to purchase at the coast, instead of home, if you have to travel to the ocean to go crabbing.
