When you're looking into purchasing a new computer, you want to buy a computer that will fit the space you'll use it in. Many people overlook this step, get their computer home and realize how large it is. They then scramble to buy a larger desk.

From Quick Guide: Desk & Hutch Guide
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure the top of your desk. Determine the length and the width of the space. Measure any other spaces of your desk where you might be placing a computer and other items for your desk.

  2. Step 2

Make a mental list of all the items you want to place on your desk. Measure each of those items or place them on your desk at a good location to see how much space they take up. If you haven't had a computer on your desk before, you may also need to make space for a modem, monitor, printer and scanner. Keep in mind that you will also have other desk items on your desk like filing units, lamps, notepads and writing instruments.

  3. Step 3

Imagine the computer sitting right there and determine whether you have enough space on your desk to perform your other tasks with the other things on your desk that you need to use.

  4. Step 4

Find the dimensions of the computer you're interested in by looking at the computer's specifications. It will list the height, length and width of the computer you're considering.

  5. Step 5

Compare the measurements you found for the computer with the area of desk space you want to use for the computer. Use the measurements from step one to look at whether there are ways to increase the space on your desk to make more room for the computer you are interested in.
