If you want a paint that does not show the imperfections on the wall, apply flat paint. This paint dries to a matte (soft dull) finish. Flat paint is not stain resistant and should be reserved for walls that don't need frequent cleaning.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare your walls. Wash them with a soft cloth soaked in warm water and dish soap to remove any dirt and oil.

  2. Step 2

Tape any trim pieces or areas on which you don't want the paint applied. Prime the walls if necessary.

  3. Step 3

Shake the paint can, and then mix the paint with your stir stick. You also can use an electric paint mixer.

  4. Step 4

Pour your flat paint into your painting tray and leave room for your roller.

  5. Step 5

Put your roller pad onto your roller handle and dip it into your paint. Roll the roller back and forth until it is covered in paint.

  6. Step 6

Coat your entire painting surface with the roller and spread the paint evenly.

  7. Step 7

Allow the paint to dry before you apply more coats. Apply as many coats as desired or until the wall blemishes have disappeared.

Tips & Warnings
  • Scrape off the old layer of paint if it is flaking or cracking.
  • Flat paint is best for walls that have had the wallpaper removed or have many imperfections.
