Step 1
Check the coverage. Many paints show the square footage that the paint covers. See how many gallons you need and multiply by the price when you try to estimate the best value for acrylic water-based pool paint.
-
Step 2
See if it needs two coats or is a single coat application. This also makes the difference in the value you receive. If one gallon covers 300 square feet and costs $60 but requires no additional coat and the other costs $40 to cover the same square footage but requires two coats, the first one is clearly the better bargain.
-
Step 3
Consider the drying time of the paint. Some paint requires up to 3 days for outside pools and 6 days for inside ones. Other paints dry quicker. If immediate use is a factor, you need to check the label.
-
Step 4
Read up on the amount of surface preparation that you have to do. Whether you're trying to save money or time, additional surface preparation usually means you use more of both. See if the pool needs more preparation with one type of acrylic pool paint than it does with another.
-
Step 5
Investigate the application to damp surfaces, if your concrete is at all damp. Not all acrylic pool paints adhere to damp surfaces.
-
Step 6
Check whether the company offers the color of acrylic pool pain you want. Not all companies carry all colors.
