1
Get a degree in criminal justice at a community college or online through a number of schools and universities. You will be able to have a wider scope of potential job opportunities in more prestigious locations if you have a degree.
-
2
Hire on with a security guard company to get on the job experience that translates well when you are ready to move into a more lucrative or enjoyable position. Security jobs are ubiquitous, and many jobs do not require any experience at all. These positions are typically low-paying jobs, so if you think of it as you are getting paid to learn, you might be able to bear the low pay for a year or two to spiff up your resume.

3
Look for a job at a retail store in loss prevention and translate other skills you have into a hiring tool to get the job. You can then receive on-the-job training in a strictly loss-prevention environment. Most stores have their own rules and regulations anyway and if you can show through other experience, such as a security guard or customer service rep in any capacity, you may be able to land a career training position.
-
4
Attend a brick and mortar school for your criminal justice or loss prevention training so that you will be able to make contacts in the field. Meeting potential referral sources or even potential employers in person can be more productive than relying strictly on paper or emails.
