Step 1
Decide on the pool oxidizer you are going to use. There are a lot of them on the market, but look in your pool's pump and equipment manual for recommended oxidizers. There may be a particular chemical make-up that is preferred for your pool.
-
Step 2
Contact your local pool supply store to compare prices with those you find online and get the best oxidizers for your money. Also consider investing in large quantities and stocking up for the next few years or splitting the cost with other pool owners.
-
Step 3
Pick a pool oxidizer that is good for the environment. The DuPont Shock Oxidizer is made to work faster, so swimmers can safely re-enter the pool just 15 minutes after the treatment has been administered. Make sure you are using a product that is not going to affect the waste water or surrounding landscapes of your yard or your neighbors' yards. Find oxidizers that are completely soluble and leave no residue.

Step 4
Ask about the return policy or warranty information. Most pool supply stores will let you bring something back if there is a problem; however, with pool chemicals, you may not be able to return something as the store may worry that you have used some of it before trying to return it or that you have tampered with the product.
