A wooden baby cradle is the perfect place for one's newborn baby to sleep during the first few months after it is born. One can place the cradle in one's room until the baby is big enough to sleep in a crib in a room by itself.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large butcher paper to create drawings
  • Hardboard
  • Spray adhesive
  • Band saw
  • Safety goggles
  • Power drill and drill bits
  • Driver bits
  • Wood glue
  • Pencil
  • Solid wood panels
  • Wood strips
  1. Step 1

Gather all materials needed to build a cradle.

  2. Step 2

Create templates using drawings of each component of the cradle and hardboard. Dampen the back of each drawing with spray adhesive and carefully lay the drawing on top of it. Use a band saw to cut along the outline of the drawing. Do this with each component of the cradle.

  3. Step 3

Place the templates on top of solid wood panels and trace around each of them. Use the band saw to cut out each of the cradle components.

  4. Step 4

Assemble the cradle. First make 2 support brackets. Apply wood glue to the bottom edge of each one and place a bracket the inside of each side panel. Reinforce with screws. Now attach the sides of the cradle to the headboard by applying wood glue to the edge of the headboard and recessing it ΒΌ inch from the edge of the first side. Secure with screws.

  5. Step 5

Apply rails to the bottom of the cradle using screws, as these will hold the rockers in place. Smear wood glue on the bottom of the rockers and place them in between the rails on the bottom of the cradle, one near the headboard and one near the footboard. Secure the rockers with screws.

  6. Step 6

Sand off any rough edges and paint the cradle.
