Using antibiotics, both internally and externally, is one of the best ways to treat severe acne problems. While antibiotics do little to reduce old acne scars, using these treatments regularly can speed the healing of acne, promote the healing of recently cured acne and prevent scarring before it happens.

Things You'll Need:

  • Natural antibiotics (lavender essential oil, tea tree oil, mint extract and aloe vera)
  • Over the counter antibiotic ointments and creams
  • Prescription antibiotic (ointments and/or pills)
  1. Step 1

Use natural antibiotics topically to help treat acne and prevent scars from forming. Lavender essential oil, tea tree oil, mint extract and aloe vera all have antibacterial properties and can be used on areas affected by acne both during and after healing to promote the regeneration of healthy skin and to combat future outbreaks.

  2. Step 2

Purchase over the counter antibiotic ointments, or antibacterial creams, which you can use during and after acne outbreaks to help treat the pimples themselves and reduce the rate of scarring. These creams speed healing of the pimples, but can also be used in the weeks following an outbreak to treat and prevent permanent scarring.

  3. Step 3

Speak to your dermatologist about prescription grade topical ointments, which are a far better option than over the counter creams if you suffer from severe acne. Not only can medically prescribed antibiotics help to prevent acne outbreaks, they lessen the severity of acne and promote the healing of tissue, helping to treat acne scars so that they do not leave a permanent mark.

  4. Step 4

Consider internal antibiotics if you suffer from severe acne outbreaks. Like topical creams, oral antibiotics cannot treat scars which have already healed; however, they can help to reduce the rate and severity of acne, speed healing and prevent scars before they happen.
