How to Improve Skill in Counter Strike

When you play Counter Strike with your friends, perhaps you're getting tired of being blown away all the time. Like other first-person shooting games of its kind, Counter Strike requires unique game skills that take time and patience to improve on.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice with other first-person shooter games, even console games. Halo is a good example. This won't help you get used to a PC's game controls, but it can help you with the eye-hand coordination you need for these games.

    • 2

Start playing on the lower-ranked servers, but move up as quickly as you can. Once you've mastered playing against a certain skill level, take on tougher opponents. Otherwise, your own skill will never improve.

    • 3

Aim for the head whenever you can. Whether it's Counter Strike or any other shooter game, this is always the easiest way to kill your enemies.

    • 4

Refrain from talking, unless your character has been killed. Avoid the radio commands unless you absolutely have to (like needing backup). Most players ignore the radio, so you'll mostly be wasting time.

    • 5

Move around at all times to keep yourself from being an easy target. Watch out for snipers, especially when turning corners. A good trick is to step into a corner and then immediately jump back.

    • 6

Forget about crouching, unless you crouch under something to take cover. Crouching only slows you down and does nothing to improve your aim. It won't improve your sniper fire either, despite what some might say.

    • 7

Stay close to your teammates whenever you can. There is always safety in numbers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Close all other applications on your computer before playing. They can use up your processor and bandwidth, slowing down the game's response time. A game like Counter Strike requires all the available computer speed you have.

  • Remember to stay put when sniping. You need to hit in one shot, and moving around will hurt your aim.
