A golf ball retrieval business can be a very lucrative and rewarding profession. Starting such a business is actually simple and only requires a few easy steps. The following steps below will guide you through starting your own golf ball retrieval business.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Standard dive equipment
  • Large elastic bag
  1. Step 1

Get your scuba diving license. Contact a dive instructor in your area and find out when you can start on your certification.

  2. Step 2

Contact local golf courses and ask for permission to dive their water hazards. Ask them to sign a contract identifying you as their only golf ball retriever.

  3. Step 3

Dive for the golf balls. You will not be able to see anything in the water so just feel for the balls on the bottom of the pond and put them in the bag you have around your neck or attached to your arm. Some golf courses have never had a ball retriever so you can potentially recover hundreds of thousands of balls on one course.

  4. Step 4

Clean the golf balls as well as you can and make them look as new as possible. Place them in the sink or bath tub and wash them with dish washing detergent and hot water.

  5. Step 5

Place your golf balls in gallon zip-lock bags, sorted by brand. Place a minimum of 12 in each bag and write the price on the front of the bag.

  6. Step 6

Sell your golf balls to individuals, golf courses and in privately owned businesses.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not sell a perfect condition ball for less than $0.25 a piece and the others for at least $0.10 a piece.
  • You might encounter snakes, turtles and alligators in many inland golf ponds, and a great deal of dangerous sea life in golf courses that border the ocean. Be prepared for these situations and know when to enter the water and when to get out.
