Freestyle soccer allows you to explore your creativity and sharpen your skills with the ball. There are loads of tricks to learn, and each one has a different character and purpose.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn to juggle the ball with your feet. Each time you tap the ball it should float about two feet into the air and should stay right in front of you.

  2. Step 2

Perform a few beginning freestyle air moves. The Crossover is a good place to start. Tap the ball into the air. swing one foot over it and kick it again with the first foot.

  3. Step 3

Pick up a few more advanced air tricks. The Around-the-World is the fundamental air move. Lift the ball up with the joint of your big toe, whip you foot around the ball and catch it back on top of your foot.

  4. Step 4

Use your creativity to make interesting combinations of the tricks you already know. Combos are the bread-and-butter of master freestylers and they help build your coordination and reflexes.

  5. Step 5

Experiment with a few simple ground moves. The basic elements of ground tricks are the roll, the pull-back, the stepover and the elastico, or flip-flap.

  6. Step 6

Work on balancing tricks like the footstall, the headstall and the neckstall. Learning these moves will improve your balance and body control, which are both vital to playing successful competitive soccer. Simply place the ball on one of these body parts, and balance it there as long as you can.

  7. Step 7

Develop freestyling routines that combine air tricks and ground tricks. Use these combinations to express your emotions, sort of like acting--humor, anger and joy can all show up in a freestyler's style.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that ball control is the most important part of freestyling. Don't sacrifice control for flair.
