A knee attack is something you want to avoid as much as possible in mixed martial arts. The force of a knee attack combined with the hardness and mass of the knee can create quite a painful combination. However, it's possible to defend against a knee attack, and then turn that defense into an attack against your opponent.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand before you opponent when you defend against a knee attack in mixed martial arts.

  2. Step 2

Keep your cool when your opponent takes you in a Thai clinch by placing both hands over your shoulders and attempting to control your head.

  3. Step 3

Place your hands on your opponent's hands as you attempt to defend yourself from a knee attack in mixed martial arts, and hold them tightly.

  4. Step 4

Shift your weight from one side to the other as your opponent attacks with his knees, in an effort to throw him off balance. This causes your opponent's knee to go harmlessly past your body instead of connecting with it.

  5. Step 5

Retain a good grip on your opponent's hands as he's trying to control your head. By holding his hands, you are keeping him close, thus helping to control the distance and making it easier for you to avoid any impact while shifting your weight from side to side.

  6. Step 6

Throw your opponent if you succeed in making your opponent off-balance, and turn the tables on him. With time, you will learn to make any attack into an opportunity to attack back. By defending yourself successfully, you are able to take control of the situation and use it against your opponent.
