If you want healthy teeth and gums and kissably fresh breath, it isn't necessary to spend top dollar on expensive mouthwashes that are loaded with chemicals and may not even be effective. Look around your own kitchen and you will probably find the ingredients for some simple mouthwashes.

Things You'll Need

  • 8 oz. warm water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 3 oz. vodka
  • 6 tsp. liquid glycerin
  • 2 tsp. aloe vera gel
  • 15 to 20 drops spearmint essential oil
  • Airtight bottle
  • 4 cups distilled water
  • 1 tsp. of fresh rosemary leaves
  • 1 tsp. anise seeds
  • 1 tsp. powdered myrrh
  • Airtight jar or bottle
  • Glass measuring cup
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • 2 drops peppermint extract
  • 2 drops spearmint extract
  • 1 tsp. fresh anise seeds

Instructions

  1. Simple Salt Mouthwash

    • 1

      Fill a drinking glass or cup with 8 oz. of warm water and stir in 1 tsp. of salt.

      Stir the mixture until the salt completely dissolves.

      Swish the mouthwash in your mouth for 30 seconds to get rid of bad bread and promote healthy teeth and gums.

    Refreshing Spearmint Mouthwash

      Mix 1 cup of distilled water with 3 oz. of vodka.

      Stir in 6 tsp. of liquid glycerin and 2 tsp. of aloe vera gel.

      Boil the mixture, allow it to cool slightly, and stir in 15 to 20 drops of spearmint essential oil.

      Store the spearmint mouthwash in an airtight bottle, and shake it before each use.

    Rosemary and Anise Mouthwash

      Put 4 cups of distilled water in a saucepan, and stir in 1 tsp. of fresh rosemary leaves, 1 tsp. of anise seeds and 1 tsp. of powdered myrrh.

      Bring it to a boil, then turn the heat down and let the mixture simmer for 20 minutes.

      Let it cool and strain the anise rosemary mouthwash into an airtight jar or bottle.

    Honey and Mint Mouthwash

      Put 1 cup of distilled water in a glass measuring cup, and add 1 tsp. of honey, 2 drops of peppermint extract, 2 drops of spearmint extract, and 1 tsp. of fresh anise seeds.

      Shake the mixture thoroughly for about 30 seconds.

      Rinse your mouth with the mixture for approximately 1 minute.
