Halogen lights were the first lighting option for ground level lights. When you buy halogen outdoor ground level well lights for your garden, an optical effect makes the light appear as though it comes from the earth. The accent light enhances the appearance and gives additional lighting for security and protection.

  1. Step 1

Locate the areas for which you want uplighting. The halogen outdoor ground level well lights shoot their beams in the air and provide dramatic accent light to ornamental trees and shrubs.

  2. Step 2

Measure the area you want lighted and the number of lamps you need. Halogen low voltage lighting uses a transformer, or power pack, to connect to the electrical source. When you purchase the power pack make sure it can accommodate the amount of voltage you choose. The transformer acts as a timer, too.

  3. Step 3

Select the brightness that you want. The brightness level varies from a low light 4 watt brightness to a much higher 50 wattage.

  4. Step 4

Choose a design of well light that suits your decor. Even though the halogen light sits in the ground, the rim area and top show during the day. Find one that's aesthetically pleasing to you. Also consider the type of material and how the moisture of your soil and weather conditions affects it.

  5. Step 5

Inspect the wiring and installation instructions. Not all halogen outdoor ground level well lights are easy to install. Before you buy, make sure you don't need the services of an electrician.
