Work your way through the 13 stages on each of the three difficulty levels. The way to unlock most of the extras in the game is to complete each stage. The other characters for multiplayer mode, and the abilities that help you with the achievements, are unlocked as you progress through the game.

Look for secondary bonuses in each level. Most require you to collect all or most of something in that stage. The secondary bonuses also unlock other variations and helps throughout the game.

Use your health power-ups sparingly. If you don't need it, don't use it, because it might be crucial later. Fight with melee attacks as much as you can since they don't need chi-power.

Observe the space around the entire arena during boss fights. The better aware you are of your surroundings, the easier it is to defeat the bosses. There could be spaces that make good hiding places.
