How to Survive Working Alone in a Cubicle

Cubicle work can be stressful to say the least. You sit there day after day, staring at your three bare walls counting the minutes until 5 o'clock. It can get even worse if you're the only one in your area or end up in the dungeon of the building all alone. By changing your habits, you can survive working alone in your cubicle without losing your mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Schedule trips to the water cooler or the bathroom at least once an hour to get a change of scenery. This gives you a chance to see other human beings and get a little exercise in along the way.

    • 2

Make friends. You don't have to be the office gossip, but a few friends are worth their weight in gold when you're stuck in the cubicle dungeon. Schedule lunch dates, go visit their cubicles or have them come down to yours to chat periodically. Use all your breaks and your lunch hour to regain your sanity.

    • 3

Take advantage of the situation. If you're in a cubicle all day long with no visitors, have some fun. Take your shoes off, play the kind of music you enjoy and decorate your cube with your favorite things. You don't have to worry about offending someone from accounting or clearing out the room with the smell of your feet.

Use technology to stay connected. With instant messengers and text messaging, you really never have to work alone.
