Step 1
Take the tutorial when you sign up to play. The tutorial leads you through an assortment of exercises to show you how to move, select and use items, fight and generally maneuver within the game.

Open the World Map from the sign in page. Click anywhere inside the map and drag it with your mouse to search all of RuneScape.

Follow the mini map in the upper right corner of the game. You are the white square on the map. Look for yellow dots on the screen that correspond to helpers in the game. Follow the map to any yellow dot to request assistance. Avoid the red dots which are enemies who can harm you.

Go to the Grand Exchange in Varrock. At the Grand Exchange, you can buy, sell or trade goods and information as well as bank your items for safekeeping. People at the Grand Exchange expect to interact with other players and are usually quite helpful.

Right-click on another player and choose "Req Assist" from the menu to request assistance. Whenever possible, choose players you already know. Strangers sometimes decline requests for help.

Ask shopkeepers for assistance in the game. They are in every town in every world. They are computer generated, so their assistance is useful but limited.

Find wizards wearing flowing robes and pointy hats and approach them for help. They are also computer generated, but they can help you learn your way around RuneScape's magical properties.

Teleport to Lumbridge anytime you get lost by clicking the spell book in your inventory list, and then choosing the "H" (Home) icon. Lumbridge is located in the very center of RuneScape.
