BitTorrent is a free file sharing program that allows users to trade, download and save large files on their computer in a compressed form. This form makes it easier to download and save because they take up less room. To install the BitTorrent client, you need to start by visiting the official website.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Download BitTorrent from the official website. You can find similar programs on other websites, but it's best to go with the official BitTorrent program.
Step2
Pick a download speed and client that uses the same operating system as you have on your computer. You'll find versions for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Step3
Select the download button once you decide on the correct operating system and follow the prompts when given. The computer will ask you where you want to install the software and some other questions.
Step4
Click on the "Downloader" button when it appears on your computer screen. This lets you automatically access BitTorrent without needing to go through your programs first to find it.
Step5
Look for the Settings button on your screen to change your options. You can change the look of the taskbar, save files in a certain location at all times and even select and change your downloading speed.
Step6
Search for and download files using the Search button on your BitTorrent taskbar. This lets you download nearly any file you can think of to your own computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't download copyright protected or infringed files like current movies and popular songs. You should only use BitTorrent to download free and legal programs and files.
